I began sewing when I was very young and have my mom and Oma to thank for that. All the sewing classes and hours spent altering clothing ultimately led me to many years of exploration in the textile arts. From garment design and construction to dabbling in embroidery, mending, weaving, and beading, all of these interests helped me find the technique I love most: appliqué.
Hi there! I'm Molly, the gal behind it all. I'm a textile artist that was born and raised in New Orleans and now located in Brooklyn.
I now spend my days making detailed appliqués that are adorned with hand and machine embroidery (and the occassional beaded mustard). These pieces are sewn onto second-hand garments or turned into wall hangings.
The majority of the fabrics I work with I once used to make handmade dresses, tops, skirts, and scarves. These fabrics were imported from all across India and I now use the scraps from those projects everyday in my work. Sometimes, when in a pickle, I'll use other second-hand fabrics or clothing scraps to achieve the perfect color in a piece.
In an effort to be more eco-conscience, I decided to take a break from buying fabric and have begun working exclusively out of my forever growing scrap bin. Luckily this works great with appliqué!
